Heterotopia invites the viewer to enter an environment where spacial and temporal boundaries are traversed.
The title of the series refers to Michel Foucault’s text “Of Other Spaces”, in which he describes heterotopic space as “simultaneously mythic and real contestation of the space in which we live.”
The series plays upon known and unknown elements, juxtaposing several perspectives within each image and compelling the viewer to enter an utopia created from the real and the unreal.
Illuminated by an undetermined source, these transitory, illusory spaces hint at a purpose, known to an outside presence, but which remains undefined to the viewer.
Each image was captured as a single digital photograph under studio conditions, without further manipulation.
